The challenge

Important work, hidden behind a dated website

BADEF runs health, education, livelihoods and protection programmes across Somalia, and donors and partners check the website before they commit. The old site made that harder than it should be. The menu had grown to more than twenty links, a sign-up popup covered the page as soon as visitors began to scroll, and the newest article on the homepage was from June 2022.

The site was in English only, and it gave search engines very little to work with: no meta description and no structured data.

Our approach

Lead with the mission, then earn the donation

Rewrote the homepage around one plain message and one next step.

Flattened the menu so every key page is one click away, with Donate always in view.

Put proof before the ask: where BADEF works, impact figures, community stories and donor questions answered.

Removed the interrupting popup and moved the newsletter into the page.

Side by side

The full homepage, before and after

Scroll inside each window to walk the whole page. The old homepage stacked sections with no clear order. The new one moves from who BADEF is, to proof, to the ask.

Before, the first screen was a pale headline and a cropped photo. Now it carries the mission, a clear button and Donate in the header.

The outcome

A site that does the mission justice

BADEF now has a website that explains its work in the first screen, answers a donor's questions before they ask, and speaks to its audiences in four languages. The homepage loads with about half the requests and a third of the weight of the one it replaces.
